NewFest, New York's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Film Festival, holds a special place in my heart, and not just because it was the very first event I ever covered in my Autostraddle career. It also holds a special place in my heart because it's consistently wonderful. NewFest showcases amazing films by queer film-makers with LGBT representation in their characters and plots, and this year is definitely no different. In partnership with OutFest in Los Angeles and Film Society Lincoln Center, the festival will run Friday, September 6th through Wednesday, September 11th, with a lineup of 15 narrative features, 4 documentaries, 31 shorts and other special events.

Palm Springs enjoys the proximity to Hollywood 100+ miles away - and the Gay Film Festival is an important compliment to the annual International Film Festival hosted here as well.
