Today, Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center announced that they have launched a virtual poetry program to create opportunities for community engagement through the humanities during this period of social distancing due to COVID-19. The program launch coincides with National Poetry Month and is sponsored in part by the Lehigh Valley Engaged Humanities Consortium, with generous support provided by a grant to Lafayette College from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Christine Haasz, a licensed psychologist, told council members that children who face rejection from their families for their lifestyle are eight times more likely to attempt suicide and three times more likely to use drugs.
Vicky Kistler, Allentown’s Health Bureau director, told council she polled local pediatricians when she learned of the bill, and there are still people in the Lehigh Valley who are practicing conversion therapy.

Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center Announces Efforts to Respond to Increased Hate Since the 2016 Election
ALLENTOWN, PA -- Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center today announced that it has received a grant from Open Society Foundations Communities Against Hate Initiative to lead an effort to develop a community-wide emergency response plan for the Lehigh Valley LGBT community and to provide for emotional support for LGBT community members who are anxious about the rise in violence and hateful rhetoric in our communities that has resulted since the 2016 election.
