Philadelphia is rich with history and during this month of pride we wanted to highlight the important part our city played in the national LGBT movement.

Equality Fest, that began as a small gathering at Penn Park in York five years ago, has expanded into a week-long event that includes events at partnership organizations.

The June 10 festival celebrates the LGBT community.

Thousands of spectators cheered Sunday’s irresistibly joyful Philly Pride Parade as it wound its way from 13th and Locust Streets to the Independence Mall judging stand, where it turned Market Street into a vibrant Gayborhood-for-a-day, then headed to Penn’s Landing for the afternoon LGBT Pride Festival.

Pride is a whole lot more colorful in Philadelphia.

The organizers risked their jobs, lives, and safety to hold the 1972 march.

In June of 1988, the Philadelphia gay pride parade was finally recognized and formally established with the city. Twenty-nine years later, the city remains host to a spectacular celebratory weekend of parades and festivals for gay pride on Pride Day during National Pride Month. It is the largest gay pride event in the region – roughly 25,000 people attend each year.
